Studio One Artist provides everything you need to create your own music and podcasts as intuitively as possible, and does it all with a single-window, drag-and-drop workflow that will make you wonder why you put up with other software that isn’t designed the same way. You’ll supercharge your creativity thanks to unlimited tracks and buses and a complete suite of virtual instruments and native effects. And if that’s not enough—for the first time ever, now Studio One Artist supports third-party VSTs, so you can bring your existing instrument and effects collection into Studio One Artist. And they’ve made them even easier to use, thanks to new advanced Key Switch support.
Studio One is designed to keep you in the creative flow by providing powerful tools that never get in your way. Robust virtual instruments like Mai Tai, Mojito, Impact XT and Presence XT are included for deep synth, rhythm, and instrument sample playback, respectively—and the included Native Effects sound just as good (and frequently, better) as third-party effects solutions.
Guitarists will love the new third-generation Ampire tech that has the most realistic amp and cabinet (and stompbox!) simulations we’ve ever made. Fans of EDM and hip-hop will appreciate Studio One’s Pattern Editor, which allows for intuitive drum and melody composition via a familiar drum-machine inspired UI, which might be just about the most fun and rewarding music-creation technique out there.
The standard for end-to-end production, only Studio One 5 seamlessly moves with you from initial inspiration to full production, final mix to digital release… and lets you truly create without boundaries.

PreSonus Studio One 5 Professional offers a complete, unified solution for music production, from composing, producing, and recording, to mixing, mastering, distribution, and performing. Featuring a flow-oriented, drag-and-drop interface, the software is built for intuitive use, speed, and efficiency. This latest version provides substantial updates including the Show Page for powerful live performance, the Score View for extensive notation, clip-gain envelopes, Melodyne Essential 5 integration, and MTC/MMC synchronization. Additional enhancements range from aux channels and extended mixer scenes to an independent listen bus and support for key switches and note controllers—something for everyone.
Studio One 5 Professional is robust enough for the most complex productions, delivering full audio and MIDI recording and editing capabilities, a comprehensive mastering suite, and built-in online cloud services. There are no limits on track count, plug-in instantiations, or editing features. Perfect for Mac- and Windows-based production systems, Studio One 5 Professional is compatible with any ASIO, Windows Audio, or Core Audio compliant audio interface, including the entire line of PreSonus interfaces.
Score Editing: Based on the award-winning Notion composition and notation software, the new Score View lets you enter, view, and edit notes using standard notation. You can view multiple tracks simultaneously in a single Score View to work on voicing or use Score View to edit one track while using Piano View or Drum View to edit others. The Score View can be detached from the Arranger Window allowing you to view the same note data in different views. Included with the Studio One Score View is a compact symbol set that lets you add trills, tremolos, arpeggios, glissandi, accents, and staccato in addition to dynamics that affect playback in real time. Grand staff for piano and harp is also included, with the ability to move notes between staves.
Clip Gain Envelopes: The new Clip Gain Envelope is the perfect tool for correcting sections of audio that are either too loud or too soft, without adding a compressor or limiter plug-in. Add breakpoints to the Gain Envelope simply by clicking on the curve and dragging the point to your desired location or draw envelopes free-form using the Paint Tool. Changes to the clip gain are instantly reflected in the audio waveform so you have a reliable visual reference of the overall level. Furthermore, Clip Gain Envelopes are sample-accurate, so they can be used for everything from entire voiceover takes to single clicks and pops. Clip Gain Envelopes are independent from event volume and fade. They’re even better because the Gain Envelope is clip-based; gain adjustments are automatically applied to all audio events and parts that use that same audio clip. So, you only need to apply it once to apply it everywhere it’s used in your session.
Keyswitch Support, Editing, and Mapping: Key Switch Articulations now have their own automation lane in Studio One, so you no longer need to worry about note edits or Note FX interfering with your Key Switches. Create and share custom maps for your virtual instruments, and save them as part of Instrument+FX presets for instant recall.
Poly Pressure and MPE Support: Studio One 5 now supports note controllers for more expressive playback of musical performances using virtual instruments and orchestral libraries. Note controllers affect individual notes in multiple dimensions if needed. This includes support for MIDI Poly Pressure and MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) with compatible MIDI hardware and virtual instruments.
Melodyne 5 Essential Integration: Melodyne has been part of Studio One since Celemony and PreSonus codeveloped the ARA extension in 2011, and the new Melodyne 5 Essential adds vastly improved vocal editing tools, integrated chord detection, and a chord grid. Use Melodyne to detect chords and export these chords directly to the Studio One Chord Track. Conversely, Melodyne can derive its scale grid directly from the Studio One Chord Track.
Tape-Resample Timestretch Mode: With Tempo set to Timestretch and this new mode selected, the audio tempo and pitch are locked for natural-sounding tape-style tempo tracking. This mode is perfect for processing drum loops with an original tempo already close to the song tempo to perfectly match tempos without applying time stretching.
Marker Track Inspector: New in Version 5, the Marker Track now features a marker list inside the Track Inspector that lets you navigate, rename, add, and delete markers in one convenient location.
Show Page: Studio One’s new Show Page lets you add backing tracks, virtual instruments, and plug-in racks for live musicians all from a single intuitive interface that can easily receive content directly from any track on the Studio One Song Page. So, by the time you’ve finished up your studio session in Studio One, you’re already more than halfway done with your stage production.
Add Your Players: Use the Players section to add Backing Track, Virtual Instrument, and Real Instrument Players. The Backing Track Player has your prerecorded material covered. The Virtual Instrument Player lets you create a virtual master keyboard from your favorite virtual instruments, and the Real Instrument Player opens up all your effects plug-ins to be used as an insert rack to process any live audio signal, letting you perfectly recreate your studio sound onstage.
Make Your Setlist: A show is only as strong as its setlist, and the Show Page allows you to organize and customize your Setlist for any performance, regardless of how long you’re expected to perform. You can name songs, change their color, reorder them, and set the Playback Mode for each to continue to the next song, stop at the end, or loop. You can also add pauses between songs to make room for audience banter. Add or skip entire songs easily for those inevitable last-minute changes.
Create Your Patches: Patches let you bring your studio work to the stage quickly and easily, allowing each song in your setlist to have a completely different set of instruments, plug-ins, and mix settings, all of which can be transferred directly from the Song Page. If you’re adding backing tracks, open your Studio One Song and select Add to Show to export stereo mixes right to the Show page. Want to use that killer synth lead from your studio production on stage? Send the complete instrument and effects, or even a complete Instrument Rack from your Song to your Show. When you’re ready to set up your virtual effects rack for live instruments, the Show Page provides you with a familiar workflow that any Studio One user will recognize—just drag and drop your favorite plug-in chains from the Browser to Player and Setlist Item.
Set Up Real-Time Controls: Most performances are not set and forget. The Studio One Show Page gives you an easy-to-use control set for instant access to unlimited parameters using up to 24 macros, freely assignable to knobs, buttons, or faders. Map each macro control to your favorite hardware controller, including PreSonus ATOM- and FaderPort-series controllers so you can control only the functions you know you'll need while you’re performing your gig.
Perform without Fear: The Show Page provides Perform Mode—a streamlined, minimal interface that removes the features you only need during the rehearsal and configuration phase of your performance. Instead, you’ll focus on just the information you need to pull off an amazing gig.
Extended Mixer Scenes: Capture your entire console state and recall the entire mixer scenes or selectively recall volume, pan, mute, inserts, sends, and more on any or every channel. Mixer Scenes are complete mixer snapshots. They can be saved at any time and recalled in their entirety, or just filtered to only include volume, pan, mute, inserts, sends, cue mix settings, input controls, or any combination thereof. Scenes can be recalled globally or limited to selected channels, and are automatically saved with the current song or your favorite song template.
Aux Channels. Classic MIDI synths can now be incorporated into your digital productions as easily as virtual instruments. The new Aux Channel allows any external audio source to be fed into the Studio One mixer without the need to create an audio track that clutters your session. Add external instruments directly from the Studio One Browser using drag-and-drop to automatically create an Instrument track and the mapped Aux Channels, so you're ready to begin sequencing with real hardware, but with the ease of your favorite virtual instrument.
Independent Listen Bus: A dedicated Listen Bus adds new flexibility to the Studio One 5 console. Use the Listen Bus to provide a control-room feed independent of the main output, with its own level control, AFL/PFL solo, and insert slots for your favorite room calibration plug-ins. When enabled, all soloed signals can be routed to the Listen Bus, while the full mix can still be heard from the main mix output; cue mix sends remain unaffected. A dedicated AFL/PFL option lets you choose between monitoring soloed signals pre- or post-fader (and pan).
Recording and playback in 64-bit float WAV format: With version 5, Studio One now supports recording in 64-bit floating-point WAV format, the recommended recording format for audio interfaces with 32-bit converters. With this format option, the maximum recording and processing precision now reaches 64-bit / 384 kHz.
External MTC/MMC Sync: Studio One can now be slaved to external hardware devices via MIDI Timecode. MIDI Timecode and MIDI Machine Control can be set independently to any available MIDI source and destination.
Five powerful virtual instruments including Impact XT drum sampler, Presence XT virtual sample-player, Mai Tai polyphonic analog modeling synthesizer, Mojito monophonic subtractive synthesizer, and Sample One XT live sampler and sample editor

Version 11 introduces Reason as a plug-in. Bring Reason’s synths, instruments, effects and sounds anywhere you want with the Reason Rack Plugin. Your favorite Reason instruments can now be used in your favorite DAW, complete with the free routing and great sounds you’d expect from Reason.
Reason 11 offers many workflow enhancements including curved automation for smooth mixing, audio-clip crossfades, and improved individual vertical zoom with expanded and per-track zoom level in the sequencer. Mute MIDI notes to try out variations by muting and unmuting individual notes. A new pen tool allows you to draw multiple notes, which greatly speeds up your workflow. Additional features include Show Played and Selected Notes in Key Edit, as well as Absolute Snap, Draw Automation Point at Same Level, and Shortcut for Moving Notes an Octave.
Rack extensions opens the Reason rack to third-party developers, Reason 11 now accepts VST plugins. Both VST and Rack Extension plugins function in a similar manner in that they plug in to the rack but retain the same hierarchy as any other Reason component. Load them into Combinator, route CV cables on the back, automate all parameters, and experiment with the safety of Undo. Reason 11 is compatible with Ableton's Link technology, allowing you to sync Reason across WiFi to other computers, hardware devices, and portable devices such as phones and tablets. Keep everything in time or change the tempo on the fly without wires or worries.
Users can record to an unlimited number of instrument or audio tracks, and record-ready channels can be created in an instant. A composite editor assists in building the perfect track simply by selecting the parts that work and muting the ones that don't. Non-destructive time stretching allows for recording first and picking a tempo later, while non-destructive pitch change is done with a mouse click.
The software includes MIDI-out support to bring the sound of hardware synthesizers and beat boxes to the Reason rack. MIDI is handled by an external MIDI instrument device, which is fully integrated into the Reason environment. Automating MIDI equipment from Reason's sequencer or even from control voltages in the Reason rack is very simple to set up. Additionally, the software can automatically slice audio recordings into single notes or hits, for further creative control and to quantize a take, tweak timing to perfection, or drastically change the recording using time stretching. The sliced-up audio can also be converted to REX files for playback and further treatment in Reason's Dr. Octo Rex Loop Player, samplers, or the Kong Drum Designer.
A fast and flexible sequencer comes with vector and tempo automation, count-in, multiple lane tracks, and Blocks mode. The floating window provides fast access to detailed editing functions that you may use all the time, such as: quantize, transpose, note velocity, note length and legato. When creating songs, many musicians tend to think of music in terms of intro, verse, chorus, breakdown, and buildup, etc. With Blocks mode, the sequencer allows the sequencing of songs using a pattern-based approach, with the segments of the song laid out in an arrangement as individual building blocks. The ReGroove Mixer is a real-time, non-destructive groove management device that can lock all the tracks together into one unified feel, and allows you to apply different settings to create up to thirty-two musical elements in a song.

Virtual Studio Rack
At the heart of Reason is a virtual rack where you craft your own sound using Reason’s synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, and other organic instruments – along with a large collection of audio and MIDI effects to shape both your sound and even the notes you play on your keyboard.
The Rack is a musical playground. Drag an instrument device into the Rack and start playing immediately. Add devices underneath your instrument like audio effects and everything is automatically connected and routed together. If you like building custom instrument and effect chains, you’ll love diving deeper into Reason’s Combinator where your custom device creations can be saved, programmed for your own macro controls, and even configured to have your own custom front panel with knobs, faders, and buttons of your own choosing and your own positioning.
If you love experimenting with modular synthesis and open-ended signal routing, then Reason’s Rack has another advanced dimension for you as well – the back of the Rack where devices can be cabled together using audio jacks and modular control voltage cables to modulate signals from device to device. The back of the Rack is a true “if you can dream it, you can build it” canvas to explore. But if you’re a front-of-the-rack type of music maker, you’ll appreciate that Reason devices auto-route while you focus on what truly matters: the music.
With a multi-gigabyte supply of synth sounds, sampled instruments, drum kits, loops and effects, Reason's built-in sound bank comes packed with everything you need to make any style of music. The integrated browser helps you quickly find and try thousands of sounds across a huge sound library.
Reason is a Plugin
Reason 12’s devices are available to users of every DAW running as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin. Running Reason as a plugin inside your DAW of choice doesn’t only offer the flexibility to take the Reason Rack wherever you want to take your music making. Reason can interact with other plugins to supercharge them in ways never before possible.
Reason’s Player MIDI effects are a wholly unique take on musical creativity and experimentation. By transforming incoming notes on your keyboard or by generating their own notes, chords, or drum patterns Reason’s Players have become favorites of the Reason Rack. Reason’s Players can now be set up in your DAW to control other plugins in your DAW, bringing the power of Reason’s Players to every instrument plugin you own!
Adding the Reason Rack Plugin Effect atop your DAW’s mix channels means tapping into Reason’s powerful mix-polishing audio effects. To get that big studio sound, the Channel EQ, Channel Dynamics, and legendary Master Bus Compressor devices have been faithfully modeled after the elite SSL 9000k* mixing desk at the center of the world’s top studios. If you want to dirty up your mix channels in the best sense of the word, try out the Audiomatic Retro Transformer’s selection of coloration and tonal shaping effects.
Don’t Already Have a DAW?
No problem! Running Reason 12 as a standalone software doesn’t just mean you can access the same powerful Reason Rack and the same vast collection of devices. Reason standalone includes its own sequencer and professional mixer, meaning you can bring your ideas to life from exploring new sounds to fully polished, mixed, and mastered songs ready for sharing with friends and fans.
Expanding The Reason Rack
While Reason comes with a sizable collection of instruments and effects devices already, some of us are always looking for even more creative options and the inspiration that comes from exploring something new. When you’re ready, Reason’s Rack is expandable with Rack Extensions. Rack Extensions additional Rack device plugins built by some of the top instrument and effects developers around the world – from modern effects to vintage instruments and everything in between.
Use your ears!
These instruments and effects are all included in Reason. You can combine them any way you want in the Rack to create the perfect sound for what you want to express. Some of these may look complicated at first – but don’t worry. Nothing can break. Just use your ears and try stuff out!
Europa - Shapeshifting Synthesizer
A wavetable synth at heart; Europa is the most powerful, most modern and biggest sounding synth for your next track and the many more to come. The heart of Europa is its three spectral wave engines, where waveforms are loaded and warped through traditional wavetable sweeps and spectral waveform modifiers. Add to that a set of unique spectral filters, customizable envelopes, fantastic effects and more and you’ll be ready to realize that Europa isn’t just the greatest synth to arrive in Reason. It’s the greatest synth to arrive. Period.
Thor - Polysonic Synthesizer
Where other synths use one specific form of synthesis and one single filter, the Thor polysonic synthesizer features six different oscillator types and four unique filters. What does this give you? An unstoppable monster of a sound generator, Thor utilises synthesizer technology from the last 50 years. With its unique selection of oscillator types and filter designs, the Thor Polysonic Synthesizer is a veritable synth museum. But there’s nothing dusty about this instrument. Thor may have one foot in history, but its sound is pure future.
Monotone - Bass Synthesizer
For all the bass heads out there, here’s Monotone: a monophonic supply of speaker rattling low-end. Monotone has a deep and big sound but is inviting and easy to work with. No hidden menus or cryptic controls. Everything you need is at your fingertips when you want it. Monotone is also the bass synth in Reason Compact for iOS. Start your basslines on Reason Compact and scale up your production on your Desktop – Monotone seamlessly integrates into your workflow.
Subtractor - Polyphonic Synthesizer
Similar in layout of the analogue flagship synths of the early 80s, the Subtractor makes it easy to create anything from warm pads to rumbling bass. A unique feature of the Subtractor Synthesizer is the oscillator phase offset. By using this feature you can create complex waveforms by subtracting or multiplying a waveform with a phase offset copy of itself. This analogue type polyphonic synthesizer is based on subtractive synthesis, the method used in classic, analogue synthesizers.
Kong - Drum Designer
Kong Drum Designer is not your regular drum module. It’s the drum module focused on giving you exactly that drum sound you’re after. Kong has 16 pads and 16 drums. Build your drum sounds based on any of the nine different drum modules. Flavour the sound with 11 support generators and effects. Program automation, create alternating groups and let Reason’s powerful sequencer drive the beat.
Radical Piano - Advanced Acoustic Piano
Radical Piano will change the way you use pianos in your music by allowing you to imagine a piano in a real space and set about creating it yourself through intuitive controls. Based on a custom blend between sampling technology and physical modelling algorithms, Radical Piano affords songwriters, producers, and sound designers an unprecedented level of control to craft a realistic piano that is 100% unique.
MIDI Out - Device
Play the sounds of your favourite hardware synths and beat machines within the Reason Rack. Sequence and automate your MIDI gear in Reason's sequencer, play in new ways with Players, or control any MIDI parameter with CV cables from any rack device.
When using Reason as a VST3/AU/AAX plugin, the MIDI Out Device communicates directly with the host. Build your own custom MIDI rack using Reason's devices and control any other plugin or external hardware in your DAW of choice.
Sweeper
Add more colour with this high quality, multi-talented modulation unit with expansive dynamic modulation options. Sweeper offers three separate stereo modulation effects: phaser, flanger and filter. The pristine-sounding phaser offers up to a whopping 40 stages for some extreme phasing sounds. The Flanger excels at the sweeping sounds you’d expect from it while the filter section is the oversampled filter from Europa with nine filter modes. To breathe life into the effect, Sweeper has a modulator with a looping envelope, an audio follower and audio trig to modulate just about any of Sweeper’s settings.
Master Bus Compressor
Reason’s trusted ready-for-radio bus compressor is now available as a rack device. The sound is identical to the Mixer’s master bus compressor, but the rack unit offers expanded CV control, dry/wet settings and the ability to apply the compressor magic anywhere in your signal chain. How would your drum mix sound with its own Master Bus Compressor?
The Echo
The Echo is an advanced stereo echo bringing together the brilliance of modern delays with the organic sounds of analogue circuitry and old-school tape machines. The Echo is equal parts pristine stereo delay, sound sculpturing toolbox, and playable performance effect. Add Delay, colour, modulations and triggers to your Rack. The Trigger and Roll modes let you play The Echo as an instrument, creating stutter and repeat effects on the fly.

Today marks new era for Reason Studios as we introduce Reason+. On the surface you might say, well now I can get Reason software as a subscription. While that is true there’s whole lot more to it. Let’s dig in.
Inspiring sound packs delivered weekly. Organized around themes like Neo-Soul, Beach Party, Cinetronica, Grime 'n' Garage and uses like Essential Guitar Effects, Trap Drums, Liquid Breaks, Pop Chord Progressions, Sound Packs will jump start your music making and lead you in new directions. People are amazed how much these unlock Reason and its devices, guiding you to create your sound. We’re starting out with a bunch of great packs of patches and intend on releasing ~10 packs a week.
All Reason Studios devices and any new ones we develop. Today that means 75 instruments, effects, and MIDI players, including the recently released Friktion and Pattern Mutator.
The latest up-to-date version of Reason software, both standalone DAW and Reason Rack Plugin for VST/AU/ AAX. No matter where or how you work, they got your back. All the new stuff they make you get access to immediately.
A new Reason+ companion application that manages your Reason life and lets you discover and install these new packs, Rack Extensions and Reason, too.
For Reason Studio, the subscription means they’ll have to earn your loyalty every week and every month. You’ll get cool stuff faster. As they develop Reason, REs, content, they’ll just release it. If you need to take a break for vacation or whatever, then stop subscribing for a month or two. Collaborating? Your partner(s) can sign up for a month or two. Reason+ users know they’ll always have full access to thier latest and greatest.
As excited as they are about Reason+, they understand that subscription services aren’t for everyone. If you want to buy a full Reason license outright, they still offer it as a perpetual license purchase. To simplify their lineup they will discontinue Reason Intro and Reason Suite—the software will continue to function, and you will still be able to upgrade to the full version of Reason. All of their Rack Extensions will still be available a la carte in their Add-On Shop. REs will work in Reason and Reason+ forever, including the ones you already own.
