If you dig deep, at the core of everything "legendary" you'll find one common thread — innovation. And at the heart of innovation is the challenge of the norm, a spirited approach that focuses thinking on not "what is" but "what if."

So accurate it even shut down

Actually, this is true. Funny story… during the first phase of testing with the Engineers at Ampeg, one particular software model was being driven so hard that it "shut down." Completely stopped working. Nada, nothing. Oh crap — Ik Multimedia thought they were in trouble. But the lead engineer at Ampeg approved the model on the spot. You see, there was a slight design flaw in the actual amplifier being modeled that would cause a power fault shutdown if the amp was driven too hard for too long. The software model was in fact so accurate that it even replicated this design flaw… that's how accurate it is. If you think about it, it's the software engineer's equivalent of the "no brown M&Ms" rider clause in a performance contract — so it looks like we're playing tonight. But don't worry. They took took the "shutdown" feature out of their models so you can rock all night. Really.

How it works

If you play, it makes sense. If not, it still makes sense.

If you're familiar with our other products, then you're right at home. Ampeg SVX works just like AmpliTube and our other guitar products. If you play bass through an amplifier instead, still, you're right at home.

Because Ampeg SVX runs from within AmpliTube, you get the full-rig signal path:
tuner —> pedalboards —> amp head preamp —> effects loop —> power amp —> speaker cabs —> mics with room effects —> rack effects. Plus, you can configure two complete rigs and run in stereo.

There are also eight different series/parallel “routing” options available that give you total signal chain control, allowing you to configure tones for every possible playing scenario. You can select and customize different configurations on the fly as you see fit: dual pedal boards running into a single amp head split to two cabs, with different mic sets for each, running into a single rack with a compressor and graphic eq, just as an example. Run a full stereo rig with different amp setups… the combinations are endless.

 

Let it Go to your Head

The B-15 looks, acts and sounds like a B-15. The SVT-CL looks, acts and sounds like an SVT. The 4Pro looks, acts and sounds like a 4Pro. See a pattern here?

Then your signal travels to the Bass Head. Choose from four groove making machines… The SVT-CL Classic Head, the SVT-4Pro, The B-15R and the BA500 (combo, but the preamp and power sections have been digitally surgically "separated" from the cabinet). Here you can tweak your tone to perfection.

Next Stop: The Bass Cabinet

Some people argue that the cabinet is the single most important "tone" feature for a bass rig. With that in mind, we completely re-engineered the cabinet section, providing you with more realistic bass response than any other bass amp simulation package. The new section allows you to freely position two microphones in front of the speaker, plus add room ambience with a stereo pair of condenser mics that allows you to adjust the "spread" and depth of the room. The result? Ultra-accurate bass response plus the ability to mix in the perfect amount of room warmth. Boom.

Plays well with others

If you already have an AmpliTube package, don't worry. The Ampeg SVX suite integrates seamlessly into your current architecture. All you have to do is start your version, and Ampeg is automatically there.

If you use the AmpliTube Custom Shop, once you purchase the Ampeg SVX package or individual amps, they automatically show up. You can add more gear to the Ampeg package via the Custom Shop. Plus, they're constantly adding new models to the custom shop

Control yourself

AmpliTube is also MIDI compatible, which means you can use your favorite MIDI controllers to change parameters and switch presets. It’s perfect for foot pedal and floor controllers, that you can connect with IK’s MIDI interfaces (like iRig MIDI 2), and stompbox-style controllers, like IK’s iRig BlueBoard. Now you can wah, control volume, add gain, swap presets, adjust delay times and more, all without ever raising your hand.

How Ik Multimedia did it

There's a special place in their history for the Ampeg project. You see, it was their first opportunity to actually work and communicate directly with the engineers at a company making the gear they were simulating. In retrospect, this project was really slightly ahead of its time. Way back in 2004, companies thought that digital modeling of their gear was a threat to their business, that it would "steal the soul" of what they were doing. Ampeg was different. They understood what IK Multimedia were doing, and how their technologies could help Ampeg spread the love and groove of Ampeg. And it worked. Now you can get that Ampeg sound everywhere… in the studio, in your house, on stage, in the street. Everywhere. That's pretty cool, don't you think?

Tear it up… Virtual style

In order to model an amplifier, you have to have, well, the amplifier. Ampeg sent us stuff. And lots of it. What came next would delight and simultaneously terrify most players: the dismantling and reconstruction of a legendary piece of gear. (Not really… they're talking about "virtual" dismantling of the gear. Take it easy.)

The original amplifier, cabinet or effect is then accurately measured and a virtual circuit representation of it is coded in software, carefully matching each component's value and circuit details. Then, a comparison of the electrical signals between the original and the model ensures that the model's behavior matches the original circuit behavior in the gear. After this phase we start a complex audio-engineering comparison with the original amplifier or effect to the modeled version. This is followed by a series of tweaks and fine-tuning to the circuit and the sonic characteristics of the model. The result is a sound indistinguishable from the original when fed with various guitar signals and dynamics.

The creation of a single model of amp or effect takes the same time than it would take to build a hardware version of it. All these technologies and development efforts have helped millions of users get the best sounds out of their guitars and basses on countless records and productions – including legendary bands like AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Guns'N'Roses, Queen, Level42 and more. And they are passionately proud of it.

Multi-Tasker - Standalone version
with 4 track recorder

The standalone version of AmpliTube Fender® sports the same features of the plug-in, but also gives you an integrated 4-track recorder with speed control. So now, you can import a backing track into the recorder section, and then record a riff into any of the available tracks. Trying to figure out that complex ultra-fast riff? No problem. The recorder section also features a speed control that allows you to alter the speed of source material without affecting the pitch.

Discography: the Hendrix Presets

Included in the AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ package are tone presets for Jimi’s discography, covering the sound settings for virtually every part of every song from his studio recordings. Go ahead, play with them. Experiment. Mix ‘em up. They’re a great springboard — it’s what we as guitar players do. Now, you can truly get that “Hendrix” tone, and more.

How it Works

Chances are, you already know how it works. They designed AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ Anniversary Collection to be so familiar and intuitive in its operation that you don’t really need a manual or an engineering degree to operate it (we do, however provide a manual, just not an engineering degree). But just in case…

Get Connected

To use AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ Anniversary Collection, you have to connect your guitar to your computer. You do this with what’s called an “audio interface” (they make some really good ones, click here to check them out). Once connected AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ Anniversary Collection gives you the exact signal chain you’d use live and/or in studio: tuner —> pedalboards —> amp heads —> speaker cabs —> mics with room effects —> rack effects. Plus, you can configure two complete rigs and run in stereo.

Signal Chain

There are also 8 different series/parallel “routing” options available that give you total signal chain control, allowing you to configure tones for every possible playing scenario. You can select different configurations on the fly as you see fit: dual pedal boards running into a single amp head split to two cabs with different mic sets for each running into a single rack with a compressor and graphic eq, just as an example. The combinations are endless.

Speaker, Mic and Room Control

What you’ll be amazed by is the speaker section… it features an incredibly detailed cabinet, microphone and room module that lets you virtually recreate your favorite recording space. You can mic your cabinet with two mics and freely place the mics around the speaker to find the “sweet” spot. You can also control the mix between mic 1 and mic 2, and change the overall “depth” of the cabinet itself. Then, you can control the room reflection and ambience utilizing the room mic positioning tool. All of mic placement options are freely movable (just click and drag), so making adjustments to the “recording space” vibe is a breeze.

Presets – the Jimi Anthology

The preset section of AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ Anniversary Collection features preset sound settings for the entire selection of studio recordings, divided by song and then by song parts. You can use these as a starting point, then modify the settings to your liking.

You can save presets for a single piece of gear, or for a complete signal chain. Presets can be organized and stored in up to 4,000 patch locations, in banks of A-B-C-D patches, that make AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ Anniversary Collection ideal for using it live with MIDI floor controller pedalboards.

Universal MIDI control

You can control AmpliTube live using IK dedicated guitar and bass interface and controllers such as iRig BlueBoard with direct programming of the controller using the AmpliTube graphical interface, or you can quickly configure it to be used with any traditional MIDI controller by associating patches to MIDI program changes and knobs, switches, pedals to MIDI continuous controllers using the built-in “MIDI Learn” function. No matter what your playing situation, AmpliTube offers you hyper-control over your tone!

High-Resolution Sound

AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ Anniversary Collection can work as a 64-bit plug-in for the most popular DAW (such as Pro Tools, Logic, GarageBand, Cubase, Live, Reaper) or can be used in standalone mode in Mac OS X and Windows. The plug-in and standalone versions offer the same function and sound, but the standalone version also offers a built-in 4-track recorder with a “slow-downer” speed control so you can learn complicated licks, or capture your ideas at the moment of inspiration. Both the standalone and plug-in versions are included when you install AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ Anniversary Collection.

AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix™ Anniversary Collection is a collaborative effort between Authentic Hendrix, LLC. and IK Multimedia. Authentic Hendrix was founded in late '90s, by Al Hendrix and his daughter Janie to curate and promote Jimi’s extensive recorded legacy. Jimi Hendrix was fundamental in the development of modern guitar amplification and guitar effects and heavily influenced the evolution of modern electric guitar sound. In only the four years between 1966, when he started his rehearsal sessions with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and 1970, when he died in London on September 18 at the age of 27, he was “instrumental” in changing the way music was made and electric guitar was played, leaving a permanent mark on the generations of guitarists and musicians that followed. He is constantly named by guitar and music magazines as the number one guitarist of all time.

How Were They Able to Do It?

Ik Multimedia has been at it for over 16 years… some even say they’re pioneers in the modeling world. The entire AmpliTube Metal chain can be easily saved, organized and recalled through the advanced built-in preset browser. Presets can be tagged and stored using a series of searchable, user defined keywords and attributes. Plus, the online Preset XChange service allows users to post and share presets they created, with a growing community of AmpliTube users.

One of the great things about AmpliTube Metal (and all the AmpliTube line for that matter) is its portability factor.
