Injecting legendary tube warmth from one of the most formative eras of music history, the WA-2MPX from Warm Audio is an authentic 2-channel reproduction of the preamp used in the AMPEX 351 tape machine, a history changing microphone pre used by such famed artists as Les Paul, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Roy Orbison, and more. Sporting three warm vacuum tubes per channel (two 12AX7 tubes and one 12AU7), the WA-2MPX delivers up to 90 dB of exceptionally clean gain, including a further 20 dB high-gain boost for low-output sources, and exudes vintage style with its brushed aluminum faceplate and Bakelite-style knobs.
The WA-2MPX features plenty of control over your input, including high- and low-pass filters on each channel, polarity selection, switchable +48V phantom power per channel, tone control for changing impedance and applying color, and selectable tape saturation to add harmonic distortion and natural compression to your signals. This tube preamp pioneered the birth of rock 'n' roll and many radio hits, with a signature tube warmth defining a legendary era of music that is still chased today. With premium components, true-to-original circuit design, and tape-saturation control, the WA-MPX authentically reproduces all the analog tone of the original to bring vintage warmth and color to your sound.
Better Than a Plug-In
Three discrete, premium tubes paired with custom transformers result in a vintage analog tone that digital circuits and software plug-ins simply can't touch. And with the ability to go from a clean volume for quieter sources, like ribbon and low-output dynamic mics, to richer distortion that can drive hard, the WA-MPX even outperforms solid-state preamps.
Control Your Tone
The WA-2MPX provides plenty of options for controlling your signal. Knobs allow you to adjust input source (mic, line, or instrument), preamplifier gain (up to 90 dB), and output level. There are switches on each channel for changing microphone polarity/phase, a high-gain boost of an additional 20 dB, +48V phantom power, and tone, which alters the input impedance to inject color into your signal. You also get an 80 Hz high-pass filter, a 2 kHz low-pass filter, and tape saturation for adding nonlinear, harmonic distortion reminiscent of a tape machine at 15 ips.

A lot of preamps on the market do a good job of raising the volume of mics and instruments. Unfortunately, many pres are doing only that, raising volume. The “Super clean” designs of today often leave the signal exiting the preamp sounding much the same as it did entering it.
If you are looking for a preamp to improve and shape your signal you will most definitely love the WA12 MKII. The WA12 MKII is designed to transform plain instruments and vocals into exciting tone. If your mixes lack depth, struggle to sound alive, or are just missing that professional touch you’ve always wanted, there is a good chance you will love the WA12 MKII.
Packed With Performance
The WA12 MKII is a completely discrete, high voltage, dual-transformer microphone preamplifier design with high gain (+71dB), high headroom, low noise, and an exciting sonic performance – great for all types of recording applications. A high quality mic preamp is one of the most critical pieces needed to achieve the elusive ‘larger than life’ sound, and the WA12 MKII is more than capable of delivering.
Premium Components
The WA12 MKII is based around a discrete op-amp, the X731, which is their own reproduction of the vintage classic Melcor 1731, considered by some to be the warmer predecessor to the modern 2520-style op-amp. The X731 can achieve vibrant, clean and lifelike tones; but can also be driven into mild saturation at much higher gain levels. The effects can be subtle, but very pleasing to the ear. The WA12 MKII can also accept any discrete op-amp on the market which conforms to the +/-16v, 2520 pinout standard.
When developing the WA12 MKII their ears played a big part in the design process. Using CineMag USA transformers and an all discrete signal path ensured that the WA12 MKII would have the building blocks to compete with the best sounding preamps on the market. They are very proud to offer such a robust/professional design in a small and affordable package.

If there's one style of preamp that professional engineers would unanimously agree has defined the tone of pop/rock records for decades, it would most definitely be the venerable '73-style of mic pre. '73-style preamps have been massively used in recording and live applications for many years and are still considered to be the “Holy Grail” of preamp choices today. The Warm Audio “WA73 Family” consists of single and dual channel '73-style amps (with and without EQ), that each pay careful homage to British audio history.
The WA273 is a “Desert Island” boutique preamp, but it can also be classified as a studio and live work-horse. Classic '73-style preamps are known for being versatile tools that work with all kinds of microphones from Condenser, to Dynamic, to Ribbon. The WA273 equally shines on all types of microphones and sources including; vocals, acoustic/electric guitars, bass, drums, percussion, orchestras, keyboards, and even as a tone shaping tool to run partial or complete mixes through. With 80dB of gain and a fully discrete Carnhill Transformer balanced signal path, there's no recording, mixing, or engineering task that the WA273 can't handle.

Vintage units used various versions of transformers throughout the years, but the most coveted were the earliest versions. These are regarded as the most desirable choice due to their fluid and forgiving nature. They saturate sweetly when pushed, and have been known to make engineers cry when they hear how beautiful their mixes sound through them!
Warm Audio worked closely with Carnhill Transformers of Cambridgeshire, UK, to design faithful reproductions of these most coveted, early version transformers. We at Warm Audio have not yet heard a modern day '73-style preamp sound as sweet and musical as does thier WA273 with these beautiful custom Transformers.
Capacitors & Signal Path
An important part of these classic British circuits not often discussed is the different styles of capacitors and output transistor used. We found it important to maintain integrity to the original design by using tantalum and polystyrene capacitors in the signal path and an output transistor choice that is much smoother in the high gain settings than what is typically found in modern '73-style reproductions.
Hand Wired & Hand Assembled
Classic '73-style preamps were often hand-wired and so is the WA273! Guru’s claim that a portion of the sought after classic British tone can be attributed to the hand-wired nature of the build. The WA273 is hand-wired and hand assembled, including the pcb components that are all populated by hand.

UK Blore Edwards Switch-Pots
A great sounding '73-style circuit should be just as reliable as it is great sounding. The complex dual concentric switch potentiometers in the EQ sections of the WA273-EQ are made in the UK by Blore Edwards who manufacture military spec switches and potentiometers. The use of Blore-Edwards components is no small inclusion for a '73-style preamp-eq in this price range.
