The MOTU 2408 mkII is a sound card for Mac and PC that has three banks of ADAT and TDIF digital in/out as well as eight analog ins and outs, and SPDIF in/out. The mkII version is different from the original in that the analog in/out has been upgraded to 24bit on balanced TRS connectors.
The 2408 has a rack mount unit that houses the audio in/out and various digital in/out connectors, and is connected to the actual sound card in the computer by a firewire cable.
The 2408mk2 is ideal for both the computer-based studio with no mixing board and more elaborate studios built around a digital mixer of any size.
With 24 channels of digital I/O, the 2408 is ideal for connecting your computer to a digital mixer. Both ADAT lightpipe and Tascam TDIF digital connections are supported at any sample rate up to 48kHz.
It includes the 324 card. It will work also with the 424 card (PCIx or PCIe) so this interface can be used with current computer systems.
The (PCI-324) short PCI card acts only as an interface to the host computer for the 2408 module, so the system's actual performance is therefore entirely determined by the capabilities of the computer's own processor. MOTU advise the following as the minimum recommended specification for either Mac or PC.
