DP version 10 delivers exciting new features like the Clips window and Stretch Audio, plus hundreds of included virtual instruments and dozens of workflow enhancements requested by DP users.

New in DP 10.1

Clips in Tracks and Clip Recording

Clips (phrases of MIDI or audio data) allow users to record, edit and arrange track material easily and intuitively. Users can apply all of DP's powerful editing tools, such as split, trim, drag and drop, edge-edit, copy/paste and more. To loop a clip, just drag out its right edge. Double-click to open the Clip Editor for precise hands-on control. Use the Pack and Unpack commands to create a clip from existing data or extract data from a clip. Clip Record mode lets users trigger clips in the Clips window and then capture their entire performance into tracks for playback and editing. Users can also record directly into new, blank clips as inspiration strikes.

Real-time and Off-line Stem Bouncing

Digital Performer 10.1's Bounce to Disk feature now allows users to batch export audio stems and mixes faster than ever with both real-time and faster-than-real-time (off-line) mixdown operations. Users can bounce multiple tracks and/or outputs in a single operation for fast, convenient delivery of stems for their productions. The "Bounce Includes Audio Patch Thru" option even allows for real-time capturing of audio returns from external sources, such as a hardware reverbs, hardware synths or Vienna Ensemble Pro™ instruments.

Retrospective MIDI Record

Digital Performer 10.1 is always capturing MIDI input, even when its main transports are not actually recording — or even completely stopped. Users can immediately recall material they’ve recently played at any time. For example, a user might experiment with musical ideas, playing their MIDI controller, and afterwards decide to place the performance into a track to permanently capture it. If the performance was played with the transport stopped, Digital Performer can even tempo analyze the performance and conform it to the project tempo. Almost like magic, Digital Performer frees creativity and ensures that precious, fleeting creative moments are never lost.

Enhanced MIDI editing
Note velocities can now be quickly altered with the new Velocity Tool. For overall enhanced viewing, note-on and note-off velocities are now displayed with larger icons, muted notes appear more clearly, non-active automation data types appear translucent, and optional note duration tails appear next to velocity handles.

Additional feature highlights

23 new drum kits for Model12 — Expanded drum kit offerings include acoustic stick, brush, rod and mallet kits, plus ten new electronic kits from popular vintage drum machines. Bonus kits include Fuji Bicycle Kit, LA Trailer Production Kit, Radio FX Kit, Chips Kit and More Cowbell Kit.

Memory Cycle and Auto Record strips — Loop the main transports and set punch-in and punch-out points visually with dedicated strips above the timeline.

Color-coded chunks — Assign a custom color to each chunk using the standard color picker.

Duplicate command — Quickly repeat the currently selected time range or object, such as a MIDI note, soundbite or clip.

Enhanced scrolling — Scroll graphic editors smoothly and precisely, vertically and horizontally in a single gesture with the new Hand tool.

Faster zooming — Use pinching gestures on a laptop’s track pad — or a mouse scroll wheel — to zoom graphic editors, both vertically and horizontally.

CLIPS WINDOW - Trigger loops and phrases from your laptop or controller

The new Clips window brings loop triggering to Digital Performer. Drag and drop audio and MIDI clips from DP's new Content Browser into the Clips window and trigger them in real time, interactively, for live performance or on-the-fly inspiration while creating new material. Trigger individual clips, multi-track clip groups (a partial row) or the entire row (clips across all tracks). DP's unique clip queue lets you stack clip sequences ahead of time, so you don't have to manually trigger each one. Dynamically add and remove clips from the queue, as inspiration strikes, from your laptop or any MIDI controller. The Clips window makes DP a live performance powerhouse, combining clip triggering with linear, track-based playback and live mixing. DP is now your one stop shop for creative studio production and live performance.

STRETCH AUDIO - Manipulate audio like never before

From precision editing of individual beats to global tempo changes, Stretch audio lets you manipulate audio faster and easier, with more control than ever before. Grab an individual audio beat to adjust its timing. The new Stretch Edit layer lets you precisely control anchor points to achieve exactly the feel you want. For global tempo control, simply enable Stretch mode and the entire audio track instantly conforms to your project tempo and time line, even with smooth tempo changes over time. ZTX PRO™ technology from Zynaptiq™ ensures the highest possible audio quality throughout.

BEAT DETECTION 2.0 - Ultimate tempo and beat control

Like magic, DP10's Beat Detection finds the beats in your rhythmic audio, from individual loops to multi-channels stems to full mixes. Once beats are detected, you can fully manipulate them with DP's new Stretch Audio feature and industry-leading tempo adjustment features. Instantly conform your audio to the project's tempo and timeline. Apply tempo changes, even gradual ones that change over time. Drop loops into the Clips window, all completely in time with the rest of your music.

CONTENT BROWSER - Instant access to everything

Get instant access to all of the resources you use to empower your creativity: virtual instruments, loops, clips, plug-ins... Whatever you need, it's now right at your fingertips, just a drag and drop away. Use Search to quickly find material by name or text strings. The Content Browser will speed your workflow by tenfold.

VCA FADERS - Enhanced control for your mix

As with classic analog consoles of years past, VCA faders will revolutionize how you mix in DP. A single VCA fader can control any number of tracks, precisely maintaining their relative volume. Create as many VCA groups as you want. Control VCAs with other VCAs, to create multiple nested sub-groups. Apply mix automation to VCAs and sub-fader automation is maintained and scaled throughout. Achieving the perfect mix has never been faster or easier.

STREAMLINED WAVEFORM EDITOR - Edit audio waveforms with clarity and precision

Digital Performer's Waveform Editor is your all-in-one environment for down-to-the-sample waveform editing, precision beat editing, elastic audio stretching, pitch correction, embedded tempo maps and more. Choose an Edit Layer and go: menus and tools follow you. Zooming shortcuts abound. Revel in the precision and clarity the Waveform Editor affords your engineering eye.

VST3 SUPPORT - Run your favorite VST3 instruments and plug-ins

Digital Performer now supports VST3 compatible virtual instruments and plug-ins. And it's still compatible with VST2 and 1 plug-ins, too, of course.

MOTU INSTRUMENTS SOUNDBANK - Hundreds of virtual instruments and loops — now included

DP10 includes a 5 GB library of multi-sample acoustic instruments, synths, loops and phrases: that's over 300 different instruments, 1100 instrument presets and 500 loops. You’ll find acoustic and electronic drum kits, pianos, guitars and basses, along with church organs, electric organs, strings, brass, woodwinds, synths, ethnic instruments, choirs, voices, percussion, sound effects and more. This versatile collection of instruments spans musical genres, eras, geographical regions and cultural styles.

6 GB of free loops and sample packs

DP10 includes 6 GB of free loops and sample packs from leading sample content providers to help you start making music right away. From DP's new Content Browser, choose from dozens of musical styles, click to audition, then drag and drop in your projects timeline to build your track quick.

Since 1986, Big Fish Audio has consistently produced the highest quality sample libraries available. Over the years, their sounds have been featured in hundreds of charting songs and top film and television soundtracks.

Lucidsamples is a collective of experienced music producers and professional musicians that offers high quality samples and sample packs which are suitable for creating products in the most popular music genres. Their sounds are being used all over the world by many well known DJs, music producers and companies.

Loopmasters is the definitive "sample boutique." Based in Brighton, England, this label has been providing pristine audio libraries for more than a decade. Content has been expansive and evolving over the years, with hundreds upon hundreds of royalty-free packs to inspire amateurs and seasoned artists alike.

SCALABLE UI - Achieve perfect clarity

Today's high-resolution computer displays offer unprecedented size and clarity. DP10 allows you to take full advantage of any screen resolution: simply press command-plus and command-minus (control-plus and control-minus on Windows) to scale DP's entire UI larger or smaller to achieve the perfect degree of clarity for your eye.

RUN COMMAND - Instant access to any feature

Gain instant access to any feature in Digital Performer by simply typing shift-spacebar to open the Run Command window. Start typing and all features matching what you type instantly appear. Can't remember which menu a feature is in? Just type its name.

PROGRAMMABLE SKIP BUTTONS - Skip by bars and beats

The skip forward/backward buttons in DP's main transports can now skip by musical increments of your choosing: skip forward or backward by one beat, or two bars, or four bars...you decide. A life-saver for live playback when the band gets out of sync with the playback system!

CONSOLIDATED ZOOMING - Zooming made easier

Zooming commands for all windows have been consolidated into the View menu for easier access.

REGION MENU PRESETS - Faster Region menu editing

You can now save and create presets for Region menu operations, allowing you to recall commonly applied settings quickly and easily. Specific presets can be recalled with assigned keystrokes or with the new Run Command window.

ENHANCED GRID SNAPPING - Relative vs. Absolute grid

Choose relative or absolute grid snapping when dragging MIDI and audio. Or use Auto Grid Snap, which sets the grid resolution automatically so you don't have to think about it.

PRIMARY AND ALTERNATE TOOL - Faster tool editing

To speed editing, DP now offers both a primary and alternate tool, which you can switch between using the 'x' key. Edit more quickly when rapidly changing between two different tools in the tool palette.

ENHANCED QUANTIZE AND GROOVE QUANTIZE - CC data moves with quantized notes

When applying Quantize, Groove Quantize or Input Quantize, Digital Performer correctly adjusts accompanying controller data with their respective notes, to more accurately preserve the original performance.

ENHANCED OVERDUB RECORDING - Overdub recording replaces CC data

When overdub recording continuous controller data, any existing data is replaced to prevent data streams that conflict with each other.

MIDI NOTE DISPLAY PREFERENCES - Enhanced MIDI note display

Display MIDI notes with greater detail, including a velocity "thermometer" and MIDI note name to quickly identify the pitch of each note at a glance.

EVENT LIST QUICK FILTER - Faster event list editing

The event list now has quick filter buttons right above the list, so you can quickly show and hide data types.
