DESCRIPTION

This guitar is in near perfect condition. In perhaps the best color (Natural) of the many that were made. The neck looks like it's been played a lot but that's because the neck isn't finished, as per Eddie, the neck was only gunstock oil and hand-rubbed special wax blend, not finished as most maple necks are. There's three small chips on the top back side. This is a handmade guitar not a mas produced one. The serial number is 86985. It plays great and of course has that Eddie Van Halen sound!!!

The quality of the tops on the Music Man EVH guitars are fantastic making them some of the most beautiful guitars ever produced of the Eddie Van Halen Signature Guitars. The quality of the tops was very consistent throughout the production life of this guitar.  There are also quite a few beautiful colors to choose from.  The guitar's sound corresponds more to the earlier EVH sound. The neck on the Music Man is 1-9/16" at the nut.

According tot Music Man, they produced approximately 6000 of these guitars from January of 1990 to September of 1995 when the last one rolled out the door.

The most common colors are red, gold (amber), blue and purple with about 1400 of each.  This includes the stop tails as approximately 200 of the red, purple and amber were stop tails (about 600 total of these).  There are about 600 trans black and 600 sunburst.  About 400 Naturals were made  They only made about 200 pink.  Green is said to be the third rarest color with 96 total pieces produced.  The rarest color is solid black at 16 pieces, followed by solid gold at 26 pieces.

When changing the strings always leave one string with tension.  Ernie Ball says you can very easily ruin the neck and your guitar by releasing the string tension without loosening the truss rod.  It is a very bad idea to ship the guitar with loose strings or without strings unless you had adjusted the truss rod.

Here are the details on the Ernie Ball Music Man EVH model guitar.

  • The MusicMan EVH model was designed by EBMM and at the time Ed began discussions was a yet unreleased design
  • The guitar was given the working title "Axis" which the guitar (with slight modifications) is now know as
  • The design however tendered to Ed's playing syles and likes
  • To make the guitar feel like Ed's famous "5150" the neck on Ed's infamous 5150 was digitally mapped
  • This digital map was used to digitally carve the EBMM EVH neck in order to recreate the rough spots and feel of Ed's 5150 neck

All MusicMan EVH's were hand made and assembled per the original agreement with EVH. Included in this agreement was a limited production run of only 1,000 guitars per year. However, demand was so high orders quickly became backlogged with some wait times up to 18 months.
