Black Album Drums
The Black Album Drums is a drum library for BFD3 and Kontakt 5.5 (full version) inspired by the drum sound featured on the "Black Album" by Metallica from 1991.
It features the kit played on that record, not just the same model, that exact kit (a 1980 Gretsch with Zildjian cymbals and a Tama Bell Brass snare).
In addition to the original kit, there are 2 additional snares, a Ludwig 1970s and a vintage Black Beauty), dual kicks (L&R), 5 toms, 4 crash cymbals, an additional china and ride cymbal.
Chocolate Audio approached the production of this library with an enormous amount of respect and love for the sound they wanted to capture: one of the signature sounds of the history of Rock and Metal music. To this extent, we were lucky to track down a large number of information and material regarding the sessions we were inspired by.

Recorded in a medium-sized recording room used on BFD Imperial Drums, this allows naturally warm ambience and direct mic signals with superb isolation.
Many included instruments provide alternative ambient and direct mic sets for increased variety. Finally, 13 stick and beater types including hot-rods, webs, rutes and jazz brushes were used to play the instruments.

The kits come with 4 sets of cymbals sampled from a Zildjian set (sticks and hotrods) and a Turkish set (sticks and brushes) and additional Cymbals (Sabian and Ufip) and 6 snares from Ludwig, Sonor and Tama, presented in 13 different versions.
These kits have been largely used since the '90s to craft some of the best selling music ever recorded.
After a through analysis of the best selling singles from the 90s Chocolate Audio realized, contrary to their belief, that the drums featured a rather large room sound, even if sometimes very low in the mix. So they opted for an distinctive room space to recreate that 90s Sound.
Another recognizable signature of the music of the '90s is the importance in the mix given to the kick. If the '80s was the epoch of loud snares, the '90s where all about kick sounds, mixed rather up front and with a lot of work on both the "click" and bottom of the kick sound. For this reason, they opted for an extensive use of microphones on the kicks and we prepared the two kicks we had at disposal in no less than 13 different ways.
The 6 snares offer a range that goes from a piccolo snare to a detuned and muted snare either using a cloth or various damping materials, resulting in 13 very usable sounds.
Even if slightly different in regard to recording technique, the single drums from each kit can be easily mixed since they share the same room, mics and positioning in the room.
With 19 Styles and 1119 patterns, the focus for Modern Retro was in delivering a collection of bread & butter grooves and fills fit to the drum sounds.
The Styles are freely inspired by some of the most successful singles from the 90s. There is a lot of creativity and variety used to capture the feel of those hit songs, to which they added our production style and the musical taste of a first-rate session drummer.
The IR Reverb module in their engine currently features 36 unique proprietary impulse responses. These are derived from vintage plates, hardware and typical rooms, which, when used with drums, push the limits of what can be done with a single drum kit.
25 global mix-ready factory presets help you discover these drum kits, additionally they added different presets for each channel, including the reverb path.
Each channel inside the special Kontakt engine can be routed to a separate output, and when properly configured in Kontakt, gives you with the freedom to mix the drums using your own plugins or external outboards.

The Black Album Drums is a drum library for BFD3 and Kontakt 5.5 (full version) inspired by the drum sound featured on the "Black Album" by Metallica from 1991.
It features the kit played on that record, not just the same model, that exact kit (a 1980 Gretsch with Zildjian cymbals and a Tama Bell Brass snare)
In addition to the original kit, there are 2 additional snares, a Ludwig 1970s and a vintage Black Beauty, dual kicks (L&R), 5 toms, 4 crash cymbals, an additional china and ride cymbal.

- Model 7 Grand PianoThe Model 7 grand piano was sampled from a outstanding example of a Yamaha C7 grand coda piano. Chocolate Audio's first idea was to sample another model, a CFIII, but when they went to the rental-house they totally fell in love with the C7 and chose it.

Sampled from a Yamaha CP80 compact electric grand, the Model 80 is a work of love and an homage to the sound that defined an era.

The Model D grand piano was sampled from a Hamburg-made 1939 Steinway D274 grand coda piano. This particular piano has been in use in various venues in Italy and has been played and praised by many top-level international classical and jazz players.

Unusual Pianos you have been dreaming of having. Chocolate Audio already has four pianos in their product line, two of which are very sought-after top-notch models. They made the choice to release another stunning piano sample pack which was a difficult task to do, but it ended up being very rewarding in the end.
- Steinbach Upright Piano
When creating upright piano Instruments, it is very important deciding which upright piano to start from. When creating grand pianos, the choice is more limited, as there are fewer outstanding examples to chose from. Upright pianos are a totally different story, there are a multitude of choices. Chocolate Audio chose a piano capable of producing both a full sound and the on the edge of being slightly out-of-tune tones characteristic of so many historical recording of these types of pianos. They sampled a beautifully made italian upright piano built by Steinbach in Torino and placed it in a mid-size roomy studio surrounded by a plethora of microphones.

Chocolate Audio teamed up with the extremely talented Gianluca Ferro using his Custom ESP 8-String Baritone Guitar to record a massive amount of samples dedicated to power rhythm guitar. This Baritone Guitar was sampled through two boutique guitar rigs in parallel (all with a perfect phase relationship) and a separate clean D.I. signal. So there is some Bi-Amping to add some additional juice if needed to your tracks.

Decimort - High Quality Bit Crusher with a complex and advanced signal processing algorithms, simulating the behaviour of the whole sampling path which exists in every AD/DA converter. Electronic music producers (especially in Hip-Hop) have always been aware that classic samplers (such as early Akai and EMU units) had a character and sound of their own. They added a "grit" and "colour" to the samples and loops they played back which made them sound "Fat" and sit well in a mix. This sound colouration was due to the encoding techniques, lower sample rates, lower bit rate and conversion circuits which these early samplers used. Decimort recreates this colouration and adds the vintage sampler magic to any loop, bass line or sound played through it. It also acts as the perfect bit crusher with filter.

Redoptor - High quality Vintage Tube Distortion with an exact emulation of a tube's circuits. The popularity of tube distortion units are as a result of their superiority over the solid-state fuzz distortions which are based on transistor clipper circuits. Tubes produce even and odd harmonics and naturally compress the signal. Transistors produce only odd harmonics and limit the sound.

Toraverb - Space Modulated Reverb is a concept algorithm reverb. When creating Toraverb, D 16 did not base it on any current reverb unit available in the market. They did not implement any “off-the-shelf” algorithm. Toraverb is not a classic type reverb unit like spring, room, hall or plate. Toraverb is a concept algorithm reverb. Using a set of easily accessible parameters, it allows the user to create practically ANY type of reverb.

Syntorus - Double Path Analog Chorus is a chorus effecting unit with a double delay line. It's capable of emulating almost every classic unit available. There are many different chorus effect plugins available on the market today. However, finding one which gives the classic analog chorus sound is easier said than done. Even on expensive units with advanced parameter controls, getting that vintage chorus timbre can be a challenge. With this in mind, D16 set out to create a plugin which would have a rich analog chorus similar to the effect found on classic synthesisers like the Solina, Synthex or Juno. This new effect is called Syntorus.

Synthesis
Nepheton contains 17 fully synthesized instruments perfectly emulating the famous 808 drum machine. All the nuances and details of the instruments sounds are captured perfectly. The instruments models are equipped with additional controls giving you possibility to tweak the sound much better. Listen to the audio examples or just download the demo and try it out.
Outputs
Nepheton has a flexible output configuration. Every instrument's audio signal can be routed to any of the 12 outputs. This allows users to further shape sounds individually or in groups via their favourite plug-ins.
Each individual output can be set to mono or stereo. For the greatest 808 fans we've added also original Trigger output (configurable as well).
Every instrument also has a Mute, Solo button and Activity led. Mute will not just silence the sound, it will stop the sound being triggered. Solo will stop all other instruments from being triggered and only allow the selected sound(s) to play.
Control
Nepheton has extensive midi control. Midi notes can be used to trigger each individual sound. Alternatively, the internal sequencer can be used. This can be set to play using Nepheton's internal clock or set to synchronize perfectly to the host sequencer.
Most of Nepheton's parameters can be automated within the host and also controlled using MidiCC with an external controller. An easy-to-use Midi Learn function allows reassignment of any of the parameters.
Internal Sequencer
Internal sequencer's memory contains two banks of patterns: simple and extended. There is 16 extended and 96 simple patterns which both can be edited traditionally using the step buttons or using the tap function.
Simple patterns are used in Host Mode where each pattern location has a midi note number assigned to it. With these notes you can control freely the order of played patterns.
Extended pattern differs from the simple one in it has 4 segments (variation A/B and part 1/2). The whole bank of 16 extended patterns is divided into two groups of Basic Patterns and Intro/Fill In Patterns. You can choose freely from played patterns, used variations, and fill in modes (triggered automatically or manually). It also can be defined whether the starting pattern should be preceded by introduction pattern and many many more. Extended patterns are used when Host Mode is off.
A Randomizer function is also provided within the internal sequencer. It can be used to make simple changes to a pattern or create a whole new one - ideal when your creativity needs a boost! Randomizing can be applied to specific instruments and the frequency of occurrence can also be adjusted easily to give you just the right amount.
All external files are stored in the XML format. This allows single patterns or whole banks to be exchanged between users easily. XML allows the files to be edited in a text editor. Ideal if you want to post or share a pattern on a web site - just post the text!

DiAcoustics Drum Action Windows Drum Instrument
Drum Action was one of the first software drum instruments made. Using the existing sound card in a Windows 3.1 or 95 computer you can now have real drum samples!
Using the General MIDI drum spec, Drum Action givers your Sound Blaster or Compatible or other FM based sound card a real wave table drum sounds. Using Natvie Signal Processing, Drum Action is able to scale it's capabilities to your system.
The wavetable sounds as stored as standard audio WAV files. That means you can modify or replace the user defined effects or instruments to create new patches. EastWest's PLAY software and the virtual instrument collections will be installed directly on your desktop or hard drive. This yearly plan only requires syncing once a year. After download and activation you can use the instruments on or offline.
