Never one to chose the easy route, Bill Bruford was reluctant to churn out yet another drum sample CD in this way overcrowded field. - Model 7 Grand PianoThe Model 7 grand piano was sampled from a outstanding example of a Yamaha C7 grand coda piano. Chocolate Audio's first idea was to sample another model, a CFIII, but when they went to the rental-house they totally fell in love with the C7 and chose it.
- Model 80 Electric Grand Piano
Sampled from a Yamaha CP80 compact electric grand, the Model 80 is a work of love and an homage to the sound that defined an era.
- Model D Grand Piano
The Model D grand piano was sampled from a Hamburg-made 1939 Steinway D274 grand coda piano. This particular piano has been in use in various venues in Italy and has been played and praised by many top-level international classical and jazz players.
- O.D.D. Grand Piano
Unusual Pianos you have been dreaming of having. Chocolate Audio already has four pianos in their product line, two of which are very sought-after top-notch models. They made the choice to release another stunning piano sample pack which was a difficult task to do, but it ended up being very rewarding in the end.
- Steinbach Upright Piano
When creating upright piano Instruments, it is very important deciding which upright piano to start from. When creating grand pianos, the choice is more limited, as there are fewer outstanding examples to chose from. Upright pianos are a totally different story, there are a multitude of choices. Chocolate Audio chose a piano capable of producing both a full sound and the on the edge of being slightly out-of-tune tones characteristic of so many historical recording of these types of pianos. They sampled a beautifully made italian upright piano built by Steinbach in Torino and placed it in a mid-size roomy studio surrounded by a plethora of microphones.
- Modern Retro Drums For Kontakt
Modern Retro Drums features 4 full drum kits sampled from a 1997 Sonor Designer kit played with sticks and hotords and a Tama Starclassics kit played with stick and brushes.
- Contemporary Vintage Drums
Contemporary Vintage Drums features 3 full drum kits sampled from: - Ludwig "Beatles" tribute kit (drum sticks used), - Ludwig "Beatles" tribute kit (brushes used), - 1977 Gretsch Concert Rock kit (drum sticks used).
- The Black Album Drums
The Black Album Drums is a drum library for BFD3 and Kontakt 5.5 (full version) inspired by the drum sound featured on the "Black Album" by Metallica from 1991. It features the kit played on that record, not just the same model, that exact kit (a 1980 Gretsch with Zildjian cymbals and a Tama Bell Brass snare).
- BBassV for Kontakt
The BBassV Electric Bass comes after several years of R&D and Chocolate Audio has set a new benchmark in terms of playability and sound. This virtual instrument is derived from a Yamaha BB415 5-string electric bass, one of the few "non-classics" instruments because it has tons of character.
-Uproar RAW 8-string guitar
Chocolate Audio teamed up with the extremely talented Gianluca Ferro using his Custom ESP 8-String Baritone Guitar to record a massive amount of samples dedicated to power rhythm guitar. This Baritone Guitar was sampled through two boutique guitar rigs in parallel (all with a perfect phase relationship) and a separate clean D.I. signal. So there is some Bi-Amping to add some additional juice if needed to your tracks.

East West Phat and Phunky Audio Loops w/Atari / PC MIDI Files
Rich Mendelson is the programmer of the five star rated sample CDs Dance/Industrial 1 and 2 - Phat & Phunky is his latest effort. There are over 160 complete loops and these are then split up into more than 2000 individual drum, effects, and instrumental samples. Clearly, a lot of thought has gone into the format and general layout of the accompanying CD booklet, which comprehensively lists the loop bpms, and all the pitches of the relevant multisamples.
So what makes up the average loop on this CD? Taking track 34 on CD One as an example, it begins like many of the other loops, with a percussive 8-bar drum loop, joined at bar 16 by a solid analogue bassline. Another eight bars later, Rhodes, laid-back organ, clavinet (with wah-wah), and marimba all join the loop, filling the groove to just the right level. There is plenty of sonic depth to all the sounds, and nothing ever seems too crowded. Once the main groove is over, we then get all of the individual drum samples that made up the loop, followed by a very usable multisample of the bass (C2,C3 and C4), the clav sample, organ pad, and the marimba (sampled at G2 and G4).
Another notable inclusion' comes in the form of track index numbers, which are assigned one to each sample. This flexible approach takes the hassle out of recording lots of individual samples from one CD, and should be applauded for its accessibility.
The general feel of Phat and Phunky is of a modern dance production tool, with the emphasis on soul, funk and hip-hop, although there are some interesting excursions into reggae and techno territory. There are many samples that we've all heard before (such as Moog and TR909 stuff), but the majority of noises are fresh and exciting. Particular attention has been paid to the signal processing, which gives many of the samples an unusual edge. Clever use of flanges and creative reverb techniques really make many of the guitar and keyboard sounds stand out from the drum loops, and work nicely in a finished track. All the samples are clean (except where intentionally crackly), and nearly everything is eminently usable.
Included is a free Atari/PC disk, containing the MIDI file note information for every one of the 165 loops. This is very useful if you want to fine-tune either the tempo or the mix of a loop, without having to go through all the tedious trial and error experiments of time stretching. This makes Phat and Phunky a truly 'interactive' sample CD, allowing both customising of the loops to fit your own track specifications, and also an insight into the programming ideas and tricks that go into professional loop construction.
