ASCAP  is the American Society of Composers, Authorsand Publishers, a membership association of over 100,000 composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers. ASCAP's function is to protect the rights of its members by licensing and paying royalties for the public performances of their copyrighted works.

Audio Engineering Society  (AES) The Audio Engineering Society is the only professional society devoted exclusively to audio technology. Its membership of leading engineers, scientists and other authorities serves its members, the industry and the public by stimulating and facilitating advances in the constantly changing field of audio. It encourages and disseminates new developments through annual technical meetings and exhibitions of professional equipment, and through the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, the professional archival publication in the audio industry.

BMI  is a music performing rights organization. It was formed to provide a competitive source of music licensing in the United States. In 1940, at the time of BMI's formation, the works of less than 150 publishers and slightly more than 1,000 writers were the only U.S. works available through the existing performing rights organizations. The repertoire available almost entirely excluded certain forms of music that were beginning to grow in popularity, such as r&b and country, which became the roots of rock & roll.

MIDI Manufacturers Association -The MIDI Manufacturers Association (also known as "MMA") is where companies work together to create the standards that assure compatibility among MIDI products. Since 1985 the MMA has produced 11 new specifications and adopted 38 sets of enhancements to MIDI.
